Brownie Batter Overnight Oats

If you’re a night owl, mornings can be a mad dash out of the door. Or maybe you’re an early riser who would rather spend the first few moments of the day anywhere but the kitchen! Wherever you fit into the equation, we’ve got a breakfast recipe that will give you plenty of time to spend your morning the way you like best!
These brownie batter overnight oats are probably the closest you’ll get to dessert while still having nutritional value! High fiber content from the steel cut oats, heart healthy flavonoids from the cacao powder, and vital amounts of protein from our choice of protein powder combine into this all-star breakfast recipe!
Don’t have cacao powder? Don’t worry! The key difference between cacao powder and cocoa powder is the cooking process – one is processed at a lower temperature, while the other (cocoa powder) is fermented and roasted for a less bitter taste. We recommend using whatever you have stocked in the pantry! Just be sure to check the label for any added sugar or dairy so that you can properly adjust the sweetness of the oats! If you have a sweet tooth, go ahead and use a packet of stevia or your favorite sugar alternative for the oats. Otherwise, the sweetness provided by the protein will be plenty to satiate that sweet tooth! If you find that the stevia was a bit too much, the ¼ teaspoon of sea salt we used will definitely help balance it out! But if you have the sweetness right where you like it, feel free to omit the sea salt! When sampling, it added a nice bite to go with the steel cut oats and strong cocoa flavor from the powder. You can double down on the chocolate flavor with chocolate protein powder like we used, or lighten the mood with vanilla protein powder! You can’t go wrong with a fool proof recipe like this! From the first bite I could tell this was a meal prep winner sure to stay in my rotation!

Ingredients


• ½ cup (50g) steel cut oats (You can use Old Fashioned Oats If you prefer a creamier texture. The steel cut oats are more firm and have a nuttier flavor)
• ¾ cup unsweetened almond milk
• 1 serving (22g) of chocolate or vanilla pea protein
• 1 tbsp (14g) cocoa powder or raw cacao powder
• 1 packet stevia (optional)
• ¼ tsp sea salt
• 1 tsp pure vanilla extract


Directions

  1. In a medium sized bowl, mix together all the ingredients until no clumps are left.
  2. Portion out your mix into desired containers, cover and place in the fridge to chill overnight.
  3. Enjoy!
