Hearing your doctor explain the dietary restrictions for your new stomach after weight loss surgery can be worrisome for most patients. For other patients, it’s not until they experience symptoms of “dumping” that they realize the importance of sticking to the doctor’s recommended diet restrictions of cutting out sugar. Dumping syndrome occurs when the body processes food (mostly sugary foods) too quickly and passes directly into your small bowel. Signs and symptoms vary per person, however, they can occur within 10-30 minutes after eating.
Symptoms of dumping syndrome include:
- Bloating feeling
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Flushing
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Rapid Heart Rate
- Abdominal pain

No matter where you are at in your weight loss journey, our team thought it would be nice to revisit some of the sweetest recipes we’ve made in the past. Enjoy the guilty pleasure feeling of cheating on your meal plan without suffering harsh consequences.
Blueberry Pie Bake
Delish, warm, and satisfying. This gluten-free baked dish is great for pie lovers. It has a semi-sweet taste that comes from the organic blueberries which have a natural sweetness. This bariatric dessert not only has a combination of flavourful ingredients but it can also be turned into a dairy-free dish for those of you who have cut dairy out of your diet.
PB&J No-Bake Protein Bites
Protein is extremely important to incorporate into your bariatric diet. No matter the type of dish we create, whether it fits in the breakfast, lunch, or dinner category WLS Afterlife will find a way to implement protein into the recipe in a way that will not affect the taste. With that being said, enjoy our PB&J no-bake protein bites which will not only satisfy your sweet tooth but help you increase your protein count. It’s one of our favorite bariatric friendly desserts
Simply Delish – Raspberry Sweetheart
Only requiring 3 simple ingredients, this sugar-free, vegan, and keto-friendly dish is a must-try! The sweetness in this dish relies on the organic raspberries that have natural fruit sugars. Enjoy the sweet and tarty taste combination without worry. It’s a refrigerated dish and is perfect for summer days.
Simply Delish – Creamsicle
A must-try this summer season. Kick back and enjoy the orange tangy flavors, with only 5 calories per serving and surprisingly 0 sugars. We recommend getting oranges preserved in 100% fruit juice rather than the corn syrup alternative. After you try this bariatric friendly dessert you won’t have to worry about that awful feeling of being weighed down by an overly heavy dessert.
Low-Carb Lemon Ricotta Pancake
One of the most recent “sweet” recipes. This was a WLS Afterlife team favorite. Ricotta cheese is a bariatric patient’s must-have ingredient in your kitchen. We use ricotta in many of our recipes and it has yet to disappoint. Although this was a breakfast blog, we strongly believe that this recipe can also be appropriate to bake into a muffin pan for those days when you’re craving something on the sweeter side.
Brownie Batter Overnight Oats
Whether your a morning person or not, making overnight oats can save you time and keep your stomach satisfied. Overnight oats are very simple to make, and best of all about this recipe is you can control how sweet you want to make this dish. Some people have found that adding stevia isn’t even necessary to this recipe but it is an option.
Sugar-Free White Chocolate Strawberry Mousse
Fluffy goodness brought to you in a cup. This white chocolate strawberry mousse is sugar-free however it is optional to add some stevia. We have found that it is not necessary to add a sweetener. One spoonful will have you planning ahead on when you can make this bariatric friendly dessert again.
Neapolitan Protein Whip, a bariatric friendly dessert
Enjoy the sweetness of dry cake mix with the combination of protein powder flavors without the risk of dumping! You can have your dessert fix and the pleasure of knowing you consumed some nutrition at the same time. Try this bariatric dessert and let us know what you think!
Chocolate Chia Protein Pudding, a bariatric friendly dessert
Are you crazy about chocolate? We surprised many bariatric patients with this chocolate chia pudding recipe for its rich texture and surprisingly sweet taste. We added chocolate protein powder into this recipe because we saw an opportunity to turn this recipe into something great for bariatric patients. Enjoy the chocolaty goodness while increasing your protein intake with this recipe.
Strawberry Chia Overnight Oats
Overnight oats as we established, are a game-changer. Not only will you be able to save yourself some time in the mornings but this overnight oats recipe can be completely customizable by your choosing. Creating this dish is as simple as throwing ingredients in a bowl and mixing – no need for specialty kitchen equipment.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Mug Cake, bariatric friendly dessert
You can never go wrong with combining peanut butter and chocolate. Prepare your taste buds and body for a sweet and nutritional sensation after trying this recipe. We used PB2, which is powdered peanut butter that uses peanuts that have had bad fat pressed out of them. Best of all PB2 also has a decent protein count. This recipe was enjoyable to create from beginning to end.
